At Back to Roots Nutrition, we believe wellness starts from within. We get to the root of dysfunction in the body by addressing nutrition and lifestyle habits and exploring the world of gut health. The gut plays such a crucial role in overall health so balancing the gut can enhance digestion, foster nutrient absorption, assist in weight loss, improve immunity and even enhance mental health. I practice functional nutrition and what this means is I take a holistic approach to health using food and nutrient therapy to address imbalances that could be contributing to chronic health conditions. Our bodies are all so unique and therefore your care should not be limited to the one size fits all approach. I consider each client's individual needs, lifestyle and biochemical makeup to create completely personalized nutrition and lifestyle plans based on what your body needs. Through specialized functional lab testing, we can identify hidden food sensitivities, gut dysbiosis, inflammation, hormonal imbalances, toxic overload and much more. My approach is designed to take a deeper dive to address the root cause of imbalance. With a few tweaks to diet and lifestyle habits, we can reset your body and create sustainable changes so you can reach your goals, maintain your weight and become the healthiest version of yourself.
The practice of functional nutrition can be viewed as a tree with many roots and branches, representing the body and all its systems. The branches and leaves are the symptoms we may experience or diseases we are diagnosed with (i.e weight gain, diabetes, IBS, constipation, hypothyroidism, depression, insomnia etc). The roots symbolize "the root cause" and what drives the symptoms/disease causing imbalance in the body (i.e inflammation, nutritional deficiencies, poor digestion, oxidative stress, hormone imbalance, toxin buildup etc). This paradigm governs my methodologies. In functional nutrition, we address the branches (symptoms) by looking at the roots of the soil (the hidden causes). Many of our illnesses and chronic conditions stem from imbalances in the roots, so we need to clear the muddy waters and nourish the soil so to speak in order to optimize health. ​A balanced body supports a robust immune system, making it better equipped to prevent premature aging and fight infections and diseases.

What I believe to be true...
When it comes to functional nutrition, successful weight loss relies more than just calories in vs calories out. It's not only about what to take away from your diet but more so what we can add in with the abundance mindset to help repair, rebalance and replenish your body systems. Reducing inflammation, oxidative stress and toxic load can do wonders for your health.
Overexercising and under-eating will not give you the long term results that you're seeking for healthy and sustainable weight loss. In reality, restrictive meal plans and yo-yo dieting can put added stress on your body, disrupt hormones and wreak havoc on your metabolism, making it harder to lose weight & keep it off over time.
By prioritizing gut health through functional nutrition, you are taking action to improve your immunity, mental health, inflammation & reduce risk of chronic health conditions. Repairing the gut with guided detoxification is the foundation to a healthier you and is something that cannot be overlooked in weight loss.
Self care is not a luxury, it is a necessity. You can't pour from an empty cup, so finding ways to consistently 'fill your cup' can improve your overall health on a deep level. Everything in our body is connected: Our diet, emotions, environment, relationships and beliefs, can all affect our physical health on a physiological level.
